Rat Happy rat carriers and hammocks

Rat Happy gratefully donates to these charities:

It is with great pleasure that some of the proceeds from Rat Happy go to help other people and animals! Sometimes a donation is made directly to a person or animal in need, other times to established charities.

These are the established organizations we have donated either time, materials or money:

horse rescue

Equine Angels Rescue Sanctuary. Equine Angels Rescue Sanctuary is a 501(c)3, non-profit horse rescue. EARS rescues foals, mares and stallions from service in the Premarin industry. The foals are matched with families who provide forever, loving homes. They are monitored after adoption and during the last 10 years over 320 foals have been rescued. The mares and stallions (who get gelded) are put into sanctuary after being rescued.

crested butte horse rescue

Crested Butte Horse Rescue. On August 27, 2011 Liz LeCoq Currier drove past a herd of 60 young horses bound for slaughter in Mexico. All of the horses were temporarily grazing on pasture land in order to gain weight and value, and were scheduled for transport to Mexico for sale and slaughter on September 8th. She went on a one-person campaign to save these beautiful horses from slaughter -- and succeeded! Money is needed for the remaining un-adopted rescues to kept them fed and healthy until someone adopts them. I personally know a few local people who have adopted (for a price!) some of these horses.

hero rats

Hero Rat. The core technology and driving force behind their life-saving mission is African giant pouched rats, who they affectionately call HeroRATs. Olfaction is the primary sensory modality of rats, as they have an extraordinarily high number of functional genes related to odor detection, giving them a keen sense of smell. They train these rats to use their exceptional sense of smell for humanitarian purposes, working in one of three disciplines: landmine detection, tuberculosis detection, or remote scent tracing.

rat chick rat rescueRat Chick Rat Rescue. The Rat Chick is Maria Pandolfi, artist, educator, and protector of rats. Maria started Rat Chick Rat Rescue after deciding she did not want to buy rats at pet stores or from breeders because of her strong animal rights beliefs and her views about breeding.

Rat Chick Rat Rescue and Advocacy Group is an all volunteer organization.
They operate a virtual shelter model where the rats are maintained in foster homes by members and rat loving friends. They work in cooperation with other shelters, groups and individuals to help find homes for any homeless rat.

equines for literacy

E.L.L.A. was established in 2010 as a 501c3 non-profit corporation because founders, Theresa and Bill Fleming, saw a two-fold benefit:
(1) a way to interest children in reading and history, and (2) to provide a home and a purpose for unwanted miniature horses and miniature donkeys.

edwards animal rescueEdwards Animal Rescue. Rescue of mainly large animals, including horses, goats, llamas and even some Zebus (Indian Sacred Cattle rescued from the Denver Zoo Krall exhibit when they closed it down). The animals come through various sources: from families that can't keep their pets to organizations such as the Zoo who need to rehouse animals when an exhibit closes down. They are a totally NO KILL RESCUE.

hermann's lipizzansHerrmann's Lipizzan Stallions. Founded in the 16th century for the exclusive use of the Hapsburg Royal family of Austria, the Royal Lipizzans are unquestionably the rarest, most aristocratic breed of horses in the world. Colonel Herrmann, joined by two subsequent generations of Herrmanns, created an American renaissance of classical equitation's. His family maintains a 200 acre ranch in Sarasota, Florida to ensure the propagation of this extraordinary breed.
